Hi,
My room is 12x28. I sit at 14 foots from the wall so there a 12 foot space behind my seating position. Is the back wall to far away for back surround duty?
If not, what kind of speakers will serve me best in that situation (direct or di/biole)?
Thanks,
Eric

I'm assuming you're talking about the back surrounds in a 7.1 setup. While the QS8s will certainly work wonderfully, 12 ft is a pretty big distance and direct firing like the M2s should work very well as well and be a more cost effective if that's of any concern. What are your other speakers?

How far are the side walls? Lots of people use QS8's for side surrounds, and then use a direct firing speaking such as the M2 or M3 for the back speakers, particularly when the back wall is that far back. You should have no problems as you can adjust the distance and channel level with your AVR but I would recommend direct firing speakers for the rear. Someone who actually has this set-up can probably give you more information.

Direct firing would be the best in this case, I think 12 ft may be too much for the QS8's to diffuse properly.
Half of communication is listening. You can't listen with your mouth.

Eric My room is exactly the same size as yours and I have M2s as back surround speakers and they work fine. In fact, given the seating position and the distance, back surround speakers are an excellent candidate from which benefits of having them are probably more advantageous then a smaller room where you are sitting closer to the back wall. They fill in that space better than not having them. Of course, make sure you have them balanced properly with the others.

Thanks for your help.
So the M2 seen the best option?
The 2 chanel back surround at 12 foot is this a bit overkill?

I think you will be fine. What are you using for side surrounds and for the rest of your speakers?

You should listen to everybody The QS8s are really amazing and I am sure most (or probably everyone) will recommend them for sides instead of the M2s. For the sides it is worth the extra cash, for the back it is arguable depending on preferences.

Hi Eric,
The QS8v3 would be my first choice; the distance is not a factor. The fact is that there are no applications where a direct radiating speaker will outperform an Axiom QS dedicated surround speakers for deep immersion.
I also find outdtanding the performance of the QS8 suround speaker model in its role as a rear or side surround speaker for musical application. Some might think because of its diffuse nature that it would lack a bit of directionality but it does not; it provides enough directional cues to be highly satisfying.
