Today I received my SVS 20-39pci sub, which is just amazing. When going through the manual, it talks about using the receivers test tones for the sub calibration. Im using a JVC receiver which does not produce any tones for the LFE channel. Other than using a Setup disk like Avia, does anyone have any good tips for calibrating the sub?

Jason,

I'd urge you to get the Avia disk. It gives you the instructions on how to calibrate the speakers includes the sub as part of that calibration. Works pretty slick. Also - big bene for getting the speakers set up nicely.

I've got a 20-39 myself and it is an amazing animal. Once I put Avia into play, everything was much better.

My favorite part of the Avia disk is the television calibrations. Most people have all the settings on their TV really out of whack.

Is there any preference to the Avia Guid to Home Theater or the Sound & Vision Home Theater Tune-Up?

That was my least favorite part. It put my TV out of whack...

Sounds like you either did it wrong, or you're used to your TV being out of whack.

What do you mean by "out of whack"?

The TV calibration part of the AVIA disk is excellent. The picture was much improved after using the disk. Although it seemed kind of silly using those little squares of plastic. But it worked!!!!

Hope this doesn't constitute a post hijacking; I was wondering where one gets the Avia or S&V test/setup discs.

I'd also be interested in hearing about preferences for or against. Unless, like receivers, all test disks are the same...and preference is given for, say, packaging, brand rep, etc. ;^)
