Any reason why Axioms won't sound good a certain recievers?

Well, not exactly true. If the amp is underpowered, you run some risk with the M80s. Generally the brands recommended are Denon, Onkyo, Marantz (which tends to be overpriced), NAD (even more overpriced), and Pioneer Elite. Yamahas were in favor awhile ago, but I don't know of any current M80s owners running them.

I have a Yamaha RXA 2000(purchased a little over a year ago), driving a 9.2 system with M80s and a VP 160 center. Sounds great.

RX-A1010...wish I had gone 2010 for the extra two channels...as it is I still use9 speakers (plus subs) just not at once. I don't think she'd notice...

Yamaha has not been the most consistent with amp power and has, at times cheaped out on power in favour of features.
Looking at the base specs, the 1010 should have plenty of power for your speakers though.
