My beautiful black QS8's arrived yesterday and now I have a mounting decision to make. I currently have my two surrounds behind the main couch mounted on a wall about a foot over your head when seated. Should I just replace the existing surrounds, or is it worth the time and effort to mount the QS8's in the ceiling on the sides of the room for a true 7:1 setup? I know there is not a lot of 7:1 media available currently so I dont know if it is worth the effort at this time. Suggestions?

If you already have a pair of surrounds behind you, then keep them there and change them to the "rears". Mount the QS8's to the side, and set them as your "surrounds". That way you'll have the 7.1 setup with a minimal of fuss.

spiff, you are too quick. Exactly what I was thinking! In any event, the QS8s are recommened to be hung on the side walls, just behind the listening position.

Here's one for the quadpole guys... if the QS series are meant to be to the sides of the listening position, slightly behind or ahead of it... if you were to place them slightly ahead of the position and yet aim the tweeter dead spot at your head, wouldn't that be kind of awkward?
Only asking because our couch is backed against a wall that's framed out to the 5 ft level to create a shelf - shelf is too high for surrounds, but don't want to move the couch forward (too far) to slip QSS stands behind it (or beside/behind - you know what I mean)
I SHOULD just wait til I get my QS4s and tinker I guess.

Bren, on this one, I'm just quoting Alan's usual input. He also ges on to say that the things are very forgiving. I'm not sure it really matters much based on what I've seen in the forum.
