Good day, I just recently received a pair of M80 V2s in the mail. I hooked these up yesterday in place of my older Paradigm Monitor 7 V4's. I understand these are a little harder to drive than the Paradigms but it seems like my Marantz just isn't cutting it. For example when listening to music off of my Macbook -> DAC -> Receiver, volume would normally be at -30 for a decent playback loudness. When I swapped the Axioms in I can hardly hear it at this level, having to go to -18 for decent loudness, but lacking a lot of bass. Is the 8 Ohm vs the 4 Ohm the culprit ?? anyway out of curiosity I took my NAD 2600 power amp off my analog setup and put that in the mix, a little louder but no increase in quality... Other sources I tried, Blu ray, Rogers TV and Internet radio all with the same results... any ideas? I do have a Crown XLS1000 out in the garage with a lot more power I can try but It just doesn't seem like these speakers should need 400+ watts of power ?? I apologize for the long drawn out message, I have a 4 year old jumping on my head so I keep losing track of what I am saying... anyway time to take this kid to the park, to much energy. any advice appreciated!

Welcome, Dustin.

Something is wrong. Are there multiple sets of binding posts on the back of the speakers? If so, are the "straps" between them in place?

Your speakers should crank with 10 watts.....

It's possible something shook loose during shipping....but this is both speakers?

Do you have the older speakers around to switch in the Axioms' place (without changing any other settings on your laptop/amp to minimize variables to the speakers only?

Thanks for the quick reply! the straps are there and tight in place. I swapped the Paradigms back in and they played just as loud as before. I am quite baffled over this... I do have a Sony receiver downstairs as well that I will swap in when I get a chance. I also tried running one paradigm and one Axiom at the same time, the Paradigm was substantially louder.

Hi Dustin,

Have you verified each transducer individually verifying that it produces some sound ?

It's sorted out now. I ran the Audyssey setup again, not sure what changed but they sound amazing now. I appreciate the suggestions!

Dustin, welcome to Axiom. Was surprised at what you initially reported, since the Monitor 7s and Axiom M80s are essentially identical in sensitivity(about 88dB for 1 watt of power at 1 meter)and your 5007 should drive either to deafening levels.

Glad to hear that you got this straightened out and are enjoying great sound.

Funny story. My speakers arrived the other day while my wife was at work ( I took the day off anticipating the arrival of them). Once they arrived, I quickly swapped out the Paradigms in the living room with the M80s and stashed the old ones in my man cave. I positioned them exactly where the Paradigms sat, hooked them up and proceeded with the troubleshooting stated in the posts above. My wife arrived home around supper and proceeded to bitch about her terrible day while walking right past the speakers, SUCCESS! here we are two days in and she hijacks the TV to watch the Bachorlette. I couldn't believe it, she honestly never noticed the change! About 15 minutes ago she says " WOW, Rogers finally sorted their shit out, I can actually clearly hear what they are saying" I take that as wife approved, kinda, sorta ?? in the mean time I have stashed the boxes and packing material under the deck, garbage day can't come quick enough. Axiom 1 Paradigm 0.

P.S I have 2 Monitor 7s for sale in New Brunswick, you have to show up when she is not here, pickup and get out as fast as possible. No time for demos smile

Play her favourite song at a volume she'd like.
