I am thinking about getting an HSU STF-2 subwoofer for a dedicated home theater - 16'x 18', 8' ceiling and wondered if that would be enough or should I step up to the STF-3. I will be using 70% HT 30% Music and like to "feel" the rumbling bass. If I can stretch my budget, I am looking at the M60,QS8,VP150 - my budget can probably work with this set-up if the STF-2 would be enough.

My room's about the same size, and the STF-2 works great. I placed it in a corner beside my couch with an end table over it, so you don't even see it. But you sure feel it! It sounds absolutely amazing, extremely powerful. In fact, I only have the gain set to about 1/3. The great thing though is that it's not just big, boomy overpowering bass (though you can get that easily enough if you want it). It's very musical. You can hear every note of a groovin' bass line, even if it's being played real soft, and every kick of the bass drum comes through nice and clean. You also can't tell where the bass is coming from in the room, which is what you want from your sub.

I have m22's, which sound beautiful paired with the STF-2. So with your m60's, which will have more low range than my 22's, the STF-2 I think will work beautifully for you.

I personally don't know about the HSU sub, but I can't imagine you being disappointed with it from all the great reviews I have read.

I just got my M60s, VP150 and QS8s 2 weeks ago and they just keep sounding better every day. My SVS PB2-isd just arrived on Thursday to finish everything off.

I stuck in Finding Nemo this morning and played the Darla scene, it was hilarious. The kids were upstairs and thought it was an earthquake or something.

I know the sub is overkill in my basement (14 x 25 x 7.5) but I don't really care. It sounds great.

You should probably talk with HSU about their recommendation for your application. If you like it really loud, like close to reference levels then the larger sub will definitely give you more head room.

Remember that it's always easier to turn down the bigger sub than find out later that the small one can't hack it. Just my 2 cents.

Troy, the STF-2 should be plenty for your use, and has a good price. However, if you really insist on still more and are willing to go up into the $600 area, you should consider this very detailed Hsu/SVS shootout that Ed Mullen(aka "Doc Spec")conducted.
