Hello, I’m still rocking my m80 v2 setup with qs8’s and ep500z. The only upgrade I have made was several years back stepping up to the vp180 center channel.

I finally am retiring my denon 3808 and and my onkyo rz50 is on the way.

I am thinking about adding two speakers for Dolby stamps setup with the front height speakers.

Do you think a direct radiating speaker like the M2’s mounted on the wall, near the ceiling and in line with my fronts , and angled toward the listening position could work? Or is in ceiling a must? I have 12 foot ceilings or so.

Link to Picture below, Thanks!

Couple typos there from auto correct , but “stamps” should be atmos lol.

Also, I didn’t ask but wondering how the current version m2 would pair with the v2 m80s sound wise…

Dirac in the rz50 can render speaker changes moot. v4 with v2 fine.

As for location, follow dolby guidelines.

Go monopole direct radiating. M2 fine.

Atmos front heights not a commonly supported layout, so check the rz50 manual. Wouldnt recommend.

I'm using front heights because I'm compromising between ATMOS, DTS-X, and Aura 3D.
To that end, ATMOS does have layout specs for front heights ... I just think ATMOS prefers a TOP layout.

The ATMOS height constrains do fight each other ... they give elevation angles and then also state Heights should not come more then 1/8 into the room.
So depending on your room size, MLP, and screen size your going to compromise.

Anyway, almost have all the Heights and Tops up ...
So, I'll try and take a few pictures and post the HT in progress thread ... maybe today or tomorrow.

Thanks. I have since decided I’ll probably go with in ceiling m3’s or mount m2 bookshelfs up on ceiling or on angled edge of ceiling which is pretty much still in line with fronts. This will be better aligned with Dolby atmos suggestions. I also have determined 4 atmos overheads will be better And can likely work in my room.
