I just returned from a visit with 2x6. He was a very kind and generous host, and I had a great time. He charred up some meat, grudgingly drank some beer with me, provided some fine Punch cigars and really went out of his way to make me feel welcome. Thanks again, bud.

We listened to his tube setup for almost an hour. I was quite surprised by what I heard - not what I expected at all. After all the talk about distortion produced by tube amps I expected to hear something drastically different from my Denon receiver. What I heard was a very nice 2.1 stereo system - excellent in every respect. Never harsh, no sound of any distortion that I could hear, excellent mids, plenty loud, clean and superb.

As great as the tube system was, 2x6's HT system was what I really wanted to hear (tube amps not being something I can do with a 10 mo old kid). I was very impressed. His homemade center channels can really scream! The sidemounted QS8s worked great. Very nice all around.

But I have to admit that I didn't drive 50 miles to hear QS8s (which I have at home myself), I was most interested in beholding the SVS 20-39. It is big - ridiculously big, but it's better looking than I had thought it would be.

We demo-ed the two DVDs I had brought - "Nemo" and "Scrat's Missing Adventure" from the "Ice Age" bonus features disc. The output from the SVS was tremendous, room shaking, couch shaking, yet very accurate. Not fat and soft at all. I think what was most impressive about that sub is how clean it was. Though it went VERY deep, there was no boom at all, no lingering resonances like I've heard from all the boxed subs. Is that a product of the cylinder design? If so, why doesn't everybody start building cylinders? That thing was fantastic!

Thanks again, 2x6.

Would you people stop raving about products that I covet, and can't afford. Somebody's raving about the Denon 3805, now you're raving about the 20-39. I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE! AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!

It is more a product of good design, rather than the cylinder.

Will...you are so close to Hsu Research....both of you are, you should pay them a visit one of these days.

Sorry! I guess now would not be the time to say how much I love my SVS Pc-Ultra?

It was great listening to tunes with you BigWill!

Figured I'd share the menu with the good folks - forgot to make the salad, so we just had Mesquite grilled semi-dry rubbed tri-tip (sesame oil, Kosher rock salt, garlic, onion powder, fresh ground black pepper) and New Zealand rack of lamb (thanks to Trader Joe's!) marinated in Rice Wine Vinegar, Soy sauce, 2 Buck Chuck Cabernet Sauvignon and garlic), accompanied by a bottle of Louisiana Hot sauce and the best French baggette in Southern California from C'est ci bon. Ate standing up in the kitchen, like real men, looking out over a field toward the ocean, Loreena McKennett's tunes wafting from the tube amp in the next room, shmoozin' about this crazy world.

I guess mentioning that I own M60's, VP150, and QS8's all in Charcoal Smoke? On top of that they're powered by a Denon AVR-3805, with a SVS PB2-Plus

Knock it off Daphoid! I already got the M60s, VP150, and QS8s. HAH! We won't talk about the 3805 and the SVS. Funny thing is, I have zero complaints about my Onkyo and HSU. I just want more, More, MOre, MORe, MORE! hahahehhehheeeheeeeeee!

I'm with YOU John. YUM!

Sounds like a good evening fellas. Glad you enjoyed it.

[bows head] Good bread, good meat, good tunes, let's eat.

I envy both of you. Thanks for sharing. BigWill, I'll be looking for the full Beer Report, too!

2x6, lunch was great. Is it ok to let everyone know that you have a beautiful place with a peek-a-boo ocean view? Really some prime real estate here in so Cal, though I feel sorry for your new neighbors (they'll need ear plugs!).

Tom, they were out of the Czechvar so we drank primarily German Helles, one of those Schwarzbiers, and a very nice Dunkel. I've had the Schwarzbier a few times before, always liked it, but I paid much more attention to it this time. It is very good - lacking the hoppy bite of the pilseners. Though dark in color, I didn't taste any roasted malt or black patent. The Dunkel was very good, too, but I forget the label.
I left the Westmalle Dubbel in 2x6s frig, so I'll have to pick that one up again sometime. I have the Affligen, Carmeliet, and Corsendonk in my frig - chillifying. I'll give them a couple days before sampling and reporting back.

Been traveling on business. The amount of postings that have occurred in the 4 days is daunting. You guys have WAY too much time to devote to this. I suspect that speed sampling is in my near future to get through all of this.

I was interested to see yet another Axiomite visit occur. Pretty neat. It's also nice to see Jack envying the 20-39 and 3805 (although the 3803 works nicely too, thank you very much ).

Jack, consider the move to the 20-39. Not only does it provide you with a nice kick in the chest, it also cures lumbago, grows hair and helps you retain you teeth. Excellent product for old gaffers.
