Does anyone know the difference between refurbished vs. reconditioned? I was looking at the Denon 3805 on the ecost web-site. I currently have the 3802 and was also wondering if the difference would be worth the move.
Thanks.

I honestly have no idea. I would think at the end of the day it means they got returned for one reason or another and Denon went through them and then resold them to E-Cost.
I would not lose any sleep over it. There are more then a few people who love these things. General thought is that any problems will have been corrected by the manufacture and you now as a consumer get a great deal. As for the 3802 to 3805, I see a few differences but not much. If you like to have the latest and greatest get the 3805. I have one and I like it.

I'm not sure about the refurb v. recon question, but make sure that e-cost is a licensed Denon dealer. I bought a refurbed HK receiver from them which turned out to be a lemon. Ecost wasn't a licensed dealer and it turned into a major hassle. HK ultimately gave great customer service, but ecost customer service was non-existent.

I can second that. I bought a refurb Denon 3800 from them and it was a lemon to say the least and they did nothing at all to help me out.

Billy, whether this is the distinction that actually applies is doubtful, but "refurbish" implies a superficial correction of items such as scratches or dents, while "recondition" implies any necessary internal repairs or relacement of parts. Note that some speculate that there's so many of these available that in some cases there's no problem at all and this is merely a vehicle for discounting their prices without upsetting full-price dealers.

I posted on another thread where I saw the 3805 for $699 at www.pcmall.com. I was told by another member that they are a licensed Denon refurb dealer. Any idea if that is definitely the case. I believe the member, but it's always nice to have backups for your backups for your backups.
In addition, does that sound like a good deal?
Thanks,
Sam

When in doubt, call Denon and ask them. That way you know for sure.

The interweb tells all...
PCMall and ecost are licensed.

Hahaha, NEVAR!!! I like being "reassured"
On a side note I'm definitely considering going with a reconditioned 3805, I'm just skeptical because, how the heck will I know if it's working correctly or not? I have no basis for comparison if it is having power issues or something hard to diagnose. Guess I wouldn't with a new unit either but obviously it's a gamble.
