Thanks chess,

Yeah, I have done the switch between thing, and the DVD Stereo sounded better. I trust my ears, but obviously they are only going to hear what choices I provide them with.
As I was repling to Jack, I was just wondering if there was a "proper" way to playback cds that I was missing. I guess I was getting at the compatibility of playing a cd on a dvd player/receiver input. I guess I missed CD Playback 101. Your point about levels is a valid one. There is a lot to the gear now days, and I just have to pay my dues by reading manuals and experimenting. Anyway, thanks for response.

People who still haven't found what they're looking for?

the only thing I know for sure is, it's always in the last place you look...but then again...why wouldn't it be?

I've kept looking for something after finding it...just thought it'd be fun.

It wasn't. Don't waste your time.

Continuing to look for something after you've already found it can be a good idea, actually. When playing hide-and-seek with little kids, it would be no fun for them if you instantly found them in the closet/behind the couch/in the bathtub EVERY TIME.

When you look for something, and find that it is not there, it's time to look somewhere else.

Mullhead - welcome to the party that never stops spending . You have WAY too much equipment to hang out with shleps like us. Really nice set-up. Congratulations.

As far as the Denon stereo goes, the 3805 has a Pure Direct mode and this is your best stereo listening. I'm not well versed on the 5900 because, ya know, I can't afford one, so I've contented myself with electronics envy. I do know it is a pretty incredible piece of equipment. I'd suggest you pound through the manual and see what it yields relative to stereo, pure direct, digital and analog. Frankly, the 3805 is extremely robust in its own right and using its DACS may suffice. The difference between the 3805 and 5900 in stereo may only be discernible to a dog's ears.

Anyhow, welcome again and let us know how the experimentation goes.

Thanks for the welcome and congrats, Ray3

I waited a long time to buy new gear. At almost half-a-century I figure I better take the plunge now. So, a little loan out of the 401k and wallah! I'm still about $3200 short of completing a 7.1 system. (need a projector, sub, and maybe M22s for the rears?)
The cool thing about borrowing the 401k money is paying myself back with interest is probably more than what it's yielding in the funds. WIN, WIN!!
At least I keep telling myself that.
Yeah, that 5900 is quite the animal. (btw...I found out yesterday that they discontinued it) I'm like Bob with both those pieces taking baby steps, but if all else fails I'll read the manuals! (lol)

Thanks again for the welcome, Ray3.

RIGHT! So..........WRITE! Nice to have another senior (well.......almost senior) here among us "oldsters" like Ray and me (of course, Ray is MUCH older than I ). And yes, the whole forum thing is addicting. So MANY forums, so little time. Sigh.
