Aww, man... the sub is already kind of localizeable at 100 Hz. I'll try 120, though.

If it helps here is a diagram of my room, as you can tell I am using my bedroom as a HT http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/7/web/439000-439999/439698_55.jpg
Also for about the receiver, I currently have a cheap Sony receiver but when or before I get my new speakers I plan on buying a $500 receiver from either Onkyo, Denon, or H&K.

In reply to:

Where do you cross your QS4s? I've had them sound pretty bad in 5 stereo (very much straining on the bass), but they work well for DD, DTS, etc. I've got them crossed at 100 right now.

100Hz - "small" on the Yamaha receiver. I'm not a big fan of the 6 Channel Stereo sound, personally - as mentioned in the Yamaha manual, it's kind of an interesting thing for parties or anywhere where people may be anywhere in the room facing any direction (so help me, if Peter says "orgies"), but... unless you're facing forward, you'll either end up with reversed stereo (if facing the back of the room) or front to rear stereo (if facing a side)... that's the same reason sports events are mixed mono.

For music listening I usually use Neo 6 Music.

So you only use the 6 channel stereo for orgies, then?

Well I got a new idea, I want a new computer speaker setup as well and instead of going with multimedia speakers I think I am going to get a pair of M2i’s and use a Sony receiver and sub that I have hanging around. This will also give me a chance to decide if I like the “Axiom sound” and if I don’t like the M2’s then I will send them back and not have to pay a big return shipping fee. Is it safe to say that if I like the M2’s I will like the rest of Axioms speakers? Also I am pretty sure that I want the QS4’s over the M2’s for surrounds, I have heard some great things about them and how they are hard to localize and really immerse you in the movie. I think I am going to e-mail Axiom and see what they say as far as what would be a good setup for my room size.

I e-mailed Axiom and they already got back to me. He said that the M22’s would do fine in my room but he recommended that I go with the QS8’s and the VP150. I can swing that still right within my budget and that way I will have no chance for upgradeitis. But one concern I had with the QS8s and the VP150 was the fact that they are 6 ohm speakers. Will a modest $500 receiver from Onkyo or Denon which puts out optimum power in an 8 ohm load power them fine? Or will that put a strain on the receiver and not power the speakers well enough? Also will the QS8’s work fine behind my listening position, rather than to the sides? Because mounting them on the sides is not really an option in my room. Thanks again.

the 6 ohm load will not be a problem for a denon, or an onkyo. i have the onkyo 701(100watts per channel), and it powers my QS8's with no hesitation. i believe the real stress comes in when you drop to a 4 ohm load, like with the M80 towers. but other than that, you should be fine.

and although side placement is considered the 'ideal' place for the surrounds, there is no probs with putting in the rear.. several people on the board have their QS4's and QS8's mounted on the rear wall, and are very happy with the result.

Matt

I have the Onkyo 601 with a VP150, M22s, and QS8s. Granted, I am in a small space so I rarely crank it up, but I have never had any trouble at all pushing these speakers. Even after hours (all day sunday sort of thing) of music and movie watching (at what I would call moderate to slightly loud levels) my receiver is fine. A little hot to touch, but that's it.

Ok, good to know that I should not have a problem powering them and that they will work good with behind placement. While Axiom recommended the QS8’s I think that the QS4’s may be fine, because I just realized that while about half of my room is 11 feet wide, the rear half where the surrounds will be if only around 7 feet wide (you can see this in the diagram. That does not leave a good amount of separation between them, so I am thinking that the QS4’s will work really well. I think I will give Axiom another e-mail and see if they still recommend the QS8’s, and again thanks for the advice.
