My new home will be complete in Dec-04, giving me a chance to build a 10x17x8 room dedicated to home theatre. I have been stocking up on components, etc for some time now.
List
Arcam dv-88p DVD
Lexicon DC-2, DD,THX controller v3.1
2 Bryston 4b 2 channel amps 250w x2
B&K tx-4430 3 channel amp 200w x3
Toshiba 51HX83 RPTV
2-Axiom M60's
1-Axiom VP150 centre
1- Velodyn sub
Now I need to purchase surrounds for the side and rears for 7 channel. I would like to purchase 4- QS8's for the surrounds but this may be overkill. Some have suggested using QS8's for the side surrounds and M2 or 3 for the rears. Im not sure.
Any thought would be great.

Just my opinion, but it depends on what you'll be using this room for. If it's for HT primarily, I'd go with 4 QS8s. They are FABULOUS surround speakers for movies, and actually do an excellent job when just listening to music in any 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1 format.
But, if you're in a situation where you'll be listening to a LOT of Hi Rez disks (SACD & DVD-A) it's not a bad idea to have direct radiating speakers (like the M2) in the rear surround position while still using QS8s as side surrounds for movies. When listening to 5.1 Hi REZ you can select the direct radiating speakers for your surrounds, and select the QS8s as your surrounds for 5.1 movies (DD & DTS).

Wow. That's going to be great.
I think you will want to consider the listening position within the room also. That is, I don't know if direct-radiating rear surrounds will be satisfactory if your seating is too close to the rear wall. In that case, I'd go with the QS8's all around. If, however, your listening position is sufficiently distant from the back wall, I would get the M2 to give you the added flexibility for SACD/DVDA that Jack mentioned.

Say, what part of the country do you live in? Would you like to have visitors?

must be somewhere a long ways away from you Peter, unless you see alot of snow in Cali. I don't imagine there's many places to use a Skidoo there!

I am also building my first dedicated home theater, also hopefully finished in early Dec. And, I just ordered the rest of my Axiom speakers not 10 minutes ago - woo hoo!!
For advise on front projectors, I suggest you go to -
http://www.avsforum.com/ and
http://www.projectorcentral.com/
I currently have a NEC HT1000 projector and a 69" x 92" Dalite HCCV electric screen, and hope to add a 1280 x 720 DLP and a bigger 2.35:1 screen eventually. HDTV sure looks good now though ( dvd's too ). Can't wait to hook up my new Axiom speakers ( M22's, VP150 and four QS4's - got a sub already ) to my Denon 3805. Should crank pretty good in a 15' x 16' x 8' room ( the QS8 would have been total overkill IMO )!

I don't know that the QS8s would've been overkill but, in a room that size, you're gonna LOVE the four QS4s!

My new home is in Barrie Ontario Canada, a long drive or flight from California. After I get this room complete and the system set up, I think I'm going to go with 4 QS8's for surrounds, and I would welcome people who wish to audition my axioms. Great loudspeakers and if I have any problems with them, Axiom is only a 1.5 hour drive for me to go up to Dwight, Ontario, Axioms home. Come on snow!!! But my HT room will be firrst on my list this winter. The skidoo may have to wait until Feb or March.

not to brag (can this even be considered bragging ) Skidoo, but we just had about a foot of snow over the weekend here in Saskatoon. I have seen a few people out on sleds, but so far not too many. Apparently they've already had their first death in Alberta though.
