QS8 Placement again?!?

This has probably been asked a million times, but I actually did a search and couldn't find anything, so I'm asking. Forgive me if this is somewhere else.
I'm trying to mount my QS8s and have run into a snag in the wall. A cross brace between the 2x4 studs at 17" from the ceiling. Is it a problem to mount them that close to the ceiling so I don't have to fish the wire through this brace? My room is 19x23, and it has 11ft ceilings, so the QS8s would be positioned at 9ft 7in or about 5ft 7in above the listeners heads.
Thanks

I think that would work, they are very forgiving. I believe the norm is anywhere from 3' to 6' above the heads. I have 9' ceilings and the top of my Qs8's are about 10-12" from the ceiling, pointing slightly downward.

From the Axiom FAQ:
Where should I place my surround speakers?
Ideally, surround speakers should be either wall-mounted or stand-mounted to either side of the couch or primary listening area, from one to six feet higher than seated listeners' ears, and slightly forward or rearwards of the listening area if you wish. Axiom's Quadpolar surrounds are especially versatile and can yield excellent performance with stand or wall-mounting to the rear as well as at side locations. (see our dedicated stands for the QS Surround speakers in the Store). Rear center speakers for 6.1 and 7.1 installations are intended to go on the rear wall at about the same height as the surround speakers.
You'll be just fine with that placement. Not to worry!

How close to the ceiling can they go? I would think that there would be a limit of some sort there....

Since there's a driver on top of the speaker, I'd try to leave a least a few inches clearance.

I don't remember who posted it, possibly Alan from Axiom, but I think he said at least 4 inches... not sure...

Yeah, there is. Manufacturer's usually suggest at least a foot from the ceiling; however, I remember reading (somewhere) someone putting their QS8's two inches from the ceiling and saying it sounded fine, so placing the speakers 17 inches from the ceiling would not harm their performance.

OK... My QS8's will be about 6-8" down from the ceiling in my basement (depending on the exact mounting), so hopefully that will be fine.

That would be me. They're about 2 inches from the ceiling. It's not ideal, but it sounds fine.

They sure beat no surrounds at all! I hated having to make those bullet ricochet noises myself when watching the Matrix at your house.
