I was wondering if anyone could advise me on if this is a good deal or not. i can get a new unopened vtf-3 mk2 sub from a guy 30 minutes from me for $585.00 cash (its $699.00 + shipping right now on hsu site)he is not a dealer or anything so hsu would prob not warranty it. so do you think that is enough of a savings to take a chance? and do you guys know what the failure rate for hsu subs are? Thanks again for any advice

GRAB IT - GRAB IT NOW!!!!
Sorry, that was just too exciting.
On a more serious note, you just aren't going to do any better. If the thing works and is not damaged/beat up (I know - unopened box), you need to get into the car, get over there immediately and pick iy up. This qualifies as "Grand Theft Subwoofer".
You may end up with subwoofer bragging rights here for some time to come!!
Also, assuming this is not a sub that was procured in a less than stellar manner, you may be able to talk HSU into providing a warranty. If this guy bought it and is selling rather than returning, they migh go for it. This way they don't need to deal with the return.
BTW - why is he getting rid of it?

My question would be how did he get the sub?
If he got it legitimately, he could return it and just be out shipping.....which would be much less than the loss he is taking by selling it to you.

If the sub was in fact bought through a legit source I would say go for it. Ask to see the original reciept,if he can produce it buy it.If not I wouldn't touch it.

Thats the sub I have and I really really like it. Did the guy say why he was selling an unopened sub? I would think without a warranty, you could get a little better deal. If you can get it with the warranty, I'd say its a good deal.

I"m with Wid on this one. Its a very nice price but make sure he has the real paper work on it. If the sub and he is legit, it should be no problem for him telling you why he's getting rid of it, where/whom he bought it from, and beable to produce the paper work. Otherwise if it was me, as tempting as it is, no deal...
Hope it works out for you. It would really be sweet!
Edit: Did you say "they" as in HE's got more than one of these for sale...?

Well, I gotta say it makes me a bit suspicious if he's selling a bunch of these. It really all boils down to his explanation and if you can verify it, through something like paper work and an email/phone call to HSU.
Perhaps he could give you a serial number that you could check with HSU. ( the Axioms have some kind of bar code/serial # on the outside of the box and on the speaker itself. It's possible the HSU's do as well.)
If you can't get this kind of verification and still want to deal then definitely push for a better price. No warranty, No paper work ect. should be pretty good leverage for you.
One a side note I know HSU customer service is excellent like Axioms and I once saw a post on their forum where a fellow mentioned a friend had a vtf-2 that was sounding funny and there was some issue of the warranty due to purchase from an "unauthorized" source. Well, they were all over it, so I'd guess you'd have a good chance of working something out with HSU.
Good Luck and let us know how it goes, Mike

As far as sales here in the US....the VTF-3 is only sold through Hsu direct, and Ascend Acoustics.
There is a Canadian distributor as well.
If you bought it, I think Hsu would support you if you had problems, especially if you helped them out and told them who sold it to you.
