Ray,
Understand ... after your post I've experimented with regular CDs, CDs with etext, and HDCDs. They all play fine on the 2900.
I asked the DVD seller (3deers.com) if they would provide a new copy of the disc. They went a step further. They are checking with the distributor to ensure that discs in the current batch are not defective ... once they validate, they will pay for return shipping AND provide me a new copy of the album.

Evacdude, just curious why the focus on making the 5.1 Hotel California DVD work in stereo. Obvious if it doesn't work that's a problem worth investigating.
However that album is one of the very best multichannel mixes I've heard.
While some multichannel albums are so poor I just downmix it to stereo, Hotel California is so spectacular in multichannel I've never even considered it.
