I'm setting my crossover in my receiver. So where should I set the crossover dial on my Axiom sub?

Turn it up as far as it goes (highest frequency) -- 150 or 200 Hz. Since the crossover only filters out high notes and lets the low notes pass, you want it set well above the crossover in your receiver.

Thanks. I had a suspicion that was the case, but I wanted to be sure I wasn't cutting some frequencies out of the mix.

Just as John states, you want to crank it clockwise as far as it will go, to get it out of the way and let the receiver control the crossover. I would recommend starting with 80hz crossover on the receiver and setting all speakers to small, of course your mileage may vary

Interesting. I had set the crossover (on the receiver) to 60, based upon some things I've read regarding the ability to perceive direction/location between 80 and 60, coupled with the M60's ability to crank out to lower than 60Hz. Guess I'll just play around with it some more.

I'm sure others will chime in on this, but I think the majority of people use 80hz. Some like 60hz for music and 80hz for movies. Some use higher than 80hz, not sure I see that point. Your right the 60's will go much lower than 80hz, but it is my understanding there is a gradual slope/blend once it hits 80hz, it just doesn't cut off. I know my Denon manual recommended this as does THX, but what do they know

Joe, can you set different crossover frequencies for the different speakers or do you have to pick one setting for mains, center and surrounds ? If the latter then 80 hz is usually best because the VP150, QS8 and M60 can all go down to 80.

If you can set the mains separately (ie another HK guy) then 60 is probably fine. I have gone as low as 40 on the mains when I run them in "large" and try to have the sub kick in where the M60s run out of steam.

If I had to guess, 60 hz will probably sound a tiny bit smoother, 80 hz will probably play a bit louder since the sub can carry more of the bass freight.

Having said that, if you don't have an HK (or something else with different x-over freqs for each speaker set) then you pretty much have to go with 80 or you'll get holes in the response from center and surrounds.
