OK,
I've succumbed and ordered an MX700. It should be here by mid week. Anyone have any suggestions on getting started with it?
I want to run, the sony TV, Scientific Atlantic cable box, Pioneer DV578A and Denon 3905 reciever.

Go here and download the MX Editor software, the MX Editor Programming Manual, and the MX Editor Tutorial. Go through the tutorial, read the manual, and then start playing with the software. Once you get the hang of the software, it gets relatively easy.
The idea is to create a configuration you like, and then download it to the remote. So, you don't need the remote to create your setup. If you make a mistake, you can delete the file and start a new one. No big deal. You'll learn a lot just from playing with the software.

Ditto what Jack said. If you want to PM me your email address, I can send you a 2 page Word doc with some detailed info I set up and provided to someone else. It would be useful.
Once you get comfortable and have questions, Jack or I would be happy to help you out.

When you get the hang of the basics, it's pretty cool. Make sure you create a master "Power ON" and a master "Power OFF" macro for the "Main" Screen. Mine powers on the whole system then switches the 2805 to "Cable" and the MX-700 to the cable device screen. Very cool. The possibilities are endless. Have 2 different sub levels for audio and dvd? Program a macro to adjust automatically when you push the button for that device. Etc, etc. If you have a laptop, it's even better because you can test functions "live" without pushing the new config to the MX-700. Ray has probably half of us assimilated into the HTM/MX collective, so you can probably get all the help you need here.

Ray, Thanks for the files, I'm having fun going through them.
I do have one question on importing .mxd files. I am having a problem on the import, when I open one of the downloaded .mxd files the in import device window the save button is grayed out. I can't figure out what needs to be done to enable the save function

I lost interest in the whole .mxd/.mxf import thing because it required loading the entire file. You end up with everything in the file. I never really learned how to do the import thing, so I can't help with this specific question. Read on.
I wanted a bit more precision. Here's the trick - open the .mxd or .mxf (can't remember which) with Universal Browser (UB).
UB, which also works with .ccf files, allows you to drag & drop individual commands. Very surgical. I prefer getting granular with the set up because completing that correctly gives you a good solid base. Once the main "stuff" is set, then tweaking is easy.

The UB can handle MXF and CCF files. If you have an MXD file and don't want to import it into your configuration, open a blank MXF, import the MXD file and save. You can then use the UB with the MXF file you created.
There is a bug with the current version of MXEditor (1.12.230) that causes import problems, so if you haven't done a "Live Update" recently, don't.

The remote came in yesterday, and it is very cool. If got a very simple set up on it now. I'll keep expanding it as I go.
Does anyone have this remote and a Pioneer DV578A DVD player, I can't find a file for it that works very well.
Ray, Thank you so much for your help, it is above the call.

The DV578 is not listed in the IR database, however try something close to it and I'm sure it will work fine. Pioneer doesn't use that many codes. If you fail to get the odd button, just teach it to the MX-700.
