I am about to purchase some new speakers and receiver to upgrade my current system...I am trying to decide between Rockets, Swans, and of course Axioms....has anyone owned any of these that can give me an unbiased view so I can purchase before I head back out to sea!

Unbiased? In an Axiom board?
I am no expert but I can only tell you that I love my Axioms, and I have quite a few!
Good luck with your search, you can't go wrong with the brands you're looking at.

There are a few guys here that own other brands, but for the most part, you're doing pretty much the same thing as walking into a bar in Wisconsin and saying "How 'bout them Packers?!?"
And now, the Americans will hijack the crap out of this thread. *G*

Seriously, don't know if you have had time to do a search -- there are some good posts here already. Consensus seems to be that :
- some people strongly prefer the Rockets,
- more people strongly prefer the Axioms,
- everyone hates the sound of the other brand,
- everyone agrees that the Rockets have a gorgeous wood finish, and...
- about every third post gets into a pi**ing contest about the merits of "assembled in North America" vs. "assembled in China"
There seems to be pretty strong agreement that the two speakers do sound quite different. Reading between the lines, the big Rockets seem to have "more" / "flabby" bass (depending on which side you take) and a midrange dip that gives a "smooth" / "lifeless" quality depending on which side you take. The Axioms seem to be more accurate with essentially no complaints about response etc... but theysometimes get panned by people who find them too bright and edgy with bad recordings. If you get a chance to listen to both and end up wanting something in between, the M3/M50 Axioms might be a good choice.

The best advice I could give is:
Run a copy of bridgmans' post, tack it up on your wall or bulkhead, refer to it often.
That just about covers it. The rest of us have our opinions, and we're all correct in our thoughts(mostly)but that one post pretty well covers the high points.

I agree. That was a well-written reply.
