Hello all- I am finally done tweaking my Axiom HT setup w/the exception of EQ the 150. I currently use the Yamaha Rx v2400 and cannot seem to get the combo I want w/the sound on the 150. When I set YPAO to "Front", I LOVE the sound in general of all the speakers as it sound very open, or "Airy" (Is that a word?:) BUT, the 150 tends to sound a little metallic or treble laden. If I simply turn off the EQ or set YPAO to "FLAT", the VP150 sounds thicker and more natural, but I loose the "Openess". Any advice on how to acheive both? The vp 150 is on top of my RPTV angled down to the listening position and forms almost a perfect Equilateral triangle w/the listening positon. My room is 20x20x9. Any advice on how to tweak this?

Darth - you could always turn off the YPAO EQ and hand EQ the centre yourself. Yammies have a centre EQ setting... 6 band (?) EQ for timbre matching a centre.

Does this help?

In reply to:

....if you get the Yamaha, please disable the automatic parametric EQ. It has the potential to make transparent, neutral speakers like Axioms sound bad. I just spoke to an owner of the Epic Grand Master system who reported that his Yamaha YPAO auto-EQ calibration "ruined" the sound of the system so he disabled it.

The YPAO also mistakenly indicates that some speakers may be out of phase when in fact they are correctly connected. We have dealt with several customers who accused Axiom of sending them speakers wired out of phase because the owners Yamaha auto-calibration feature had indicated one of the speakers was out of phase when in fact it was not!

Yamaha's YPAO auto-calibration may be great for their marketiing and sales department, but do not rely on it for proper setup for your system.

I would tend to agree. The YPAO has its faults. But its not completely the YPAO's fault. Any time you EQ something your are "tampering" with the original signal and therefor altering...therefor downmixing the signal and adding additional noise into the mix...THEREFOR degrading the quality of the sound. In your case adding that lovely metallic sound. The less you mix, the better off you are. Its always better to try to adjust physical things around you (ie - drapes, rugs, pillows) before trying to EQ everything.
In any case, this is my suggestion from my experience from my ownership of the 1500 model. You can select which tests you want to run. It is still good for things like checking your cabling connections and whatnot. But stay away from EQs if you can handle it. All it gives you is artificial sound.

Well, from what you are saying, it sonds like youlike the EQ-ing that the Yam is doing on the front mains, but not on the center.
You (or at least I can on my 2500) could copy down what the EQ is doing on the mains when enabled, then turn off the EQ-ing completly, and then just go into the manual settings and adjust the mains to what they go to when the EQ is enabled.
But for my listening, I ended up turning all of the EQ settings off and went back to flat on all.
