It is with mixed emotions that I share this information. I have sold my M60/VP100/QS8 set and am awaiting the arrival of a set of Onix Rockets (RS850/RSC200/RSS300).

I loved my Axioms and will miss them, but I made the change for a variety of reasons that I won't detail here, including a bit of input from the wife. I DO want to be very clear on one point - there is nothing wrong with the Axioms and I was very happy with them. I still think they represent one of the outstanding speaker values available today. I did not make the change because of any downside with the Axioms.

One bit of info I will share that contributed to this difficult decision is that we are empty-nesters and have been passively looking at downsizing for the last 8-10 months. We were not going to actively pursue it until after my daughter's wedding in August. Well, two weeks ago we stumbled across the perfect house at an unbelieveable price that, by coincidence, ALSO sits just off the 5th tee at the country club where I have a membership. Could NOT pass it up. This scenario has helped with the Axiom/Rockets decision.

Ray, the first and possibly most important point is that you're still required to be an active participant in this forum, Axiom owner or not. This place would be poorer in your absence.

The second thing I should mention is that it sounds like you've made a choice that's going to work well for you and your family. If a set of Rockets is part of the deal, screw anyone else who gives you grief.

Good luck with your move and your new purchases!

Congrats Ray,
I suppose we all wait for that infusion of cash or the right opportunity in life to upgrade. Yours sounds like a winner. A house on the golf course and new speakers. What more can a guy want? Please don't leave the Axiom board. I enjoy your contributions!
Cheers,
Shaun

Hmmmm, unless my long-ago catechism fails me, "confession" implies a sinful act and requires penance.

I'm thinking we can absolve Ray if he promises to do the following:

1. Continue to let his humor and wit shine on these forums
2. Be on call 24/7 for MX-700 support calls
3. Host the annual Axiom Atlantic BBQ and Golf Tournament

Congratulations, my friend.

- Tom

You forgot:

4. Recite five Our Fathers and four Hail Marys.

I've always wondered if there's a secret formula that priests have to follow when determining the number of OFs or HMs to assign, or if it's comlpetely arbitrary.

I think the mortal sin here is that he sold the Axioms before the Rockets arrived so we're not going to get a real good A/B comparison review. I think we had to wait about four months for the last review and we never got all our questions answered

Let us know how the speakers work out.

Congrats on the new house !! Sounds like a real good catch...

You could probably give me pointers, then. My job is driving me to consider working towards full blown cirrhosis of the liver. You've gotta have goals, right?

Peter, the Pope told me(same conversation as the one about the copper which we discussed)that he's authorized one Our Father And Hail Mary per mortal sin and one-third of each per venial sin(subject to a required minimum of six sins).

Wait - so the Pope WANTS us to sin?

Sweet.

Yes, Adam, otherwise there won't be enough Our Fathers and Hail Marys being said.

I can't believe all of you guys are falling for this "Empty Nest" / "Good Deal" thing! Nobody plays golf up there. It's too damn cold 9 months of the year.
He just realized he was hitting the wall on MX700 Sales here, and after a perusal of the Rocket Boards he smelled fresh blood and moved on!
Heh, heh, heh...

And, as to;
"I think the mortal sin here is that he sold the Axioms before the Rockets arrived so we're not going to get a real good A/B comparison review."
I agree, THAT was the big sin!

Don't you dare leave us Ray!
Congrats on the good deal...

PS: I've always wondered; What is the deductable on glass for one of those houses on a golf course?

Thank you for the kind words. I was hopeful I could keep playing in this sandbox without too much downside and you guys made me feel good about that.

Tom - the beauty of the positioning of the house is that I am at a right angle to the tee and hitting the ball at the house will be extremely dificult, unless it's done on purpose. If that is the case, I would be able to unleash my 20lb dog "Molly the Attacker" and she would lick the golfer into submission.

Haven't had a golf club in my hands for 30 years, but I'll bet I could hit it from a right angle!
But probably not from straight on...

Why do you think they make flourescent orange golf balls ? They're easier to find in the snow. That's why the world standard for golf outfits is long pants, not shorts... in deference to our thriving Winter Golf leagues

ray- be sure and give us a detailed report on the rockets performance once you get it all set-up. when i was making my final decision on what speakers to get, the axioms and the rockets were the last 2. i obviously went with the axioms, but i reckon that the rockets are just as good, or better, depending on the room and the pair of ears.

bottomline comes down to you being happy with your purchase. so, if all is good in 'rayland', then who cares what we think..

Man, I thought this was all a dream. Somebody pinch me, I need to wake up, now. I don't know about the others Ray, but, this news was like a lightning strike. I always thought you would be the last person on this board who would sell your Axioms. Since the deed is done, please accept my hope that the Rockets are everything you expect them to be and more. If you tell us next that you sold your mx-700 and bought a Harmony I am going to jump off the Red River bridge, and trust me, the water isn't that deep.

LOL Bruce!! Actually, the new house is going to require a little recalibration of our HT equipment. Right now I have the HT in our family room and we have a 27" CRT in the den as an alternative.

The new place has a great room with built-ins on either side of a gas fireplace. Well, a 42" plasma is going there. The basement will be finished (Sep/Oct) into a modest den and home theater for the big TV and the sound system. I will likely need another MX-700 (or 850) for the great room!

I work with a lady golfer, who on one occasion was golfing with another co-worker. She was standing 90 degrees to him and his teed-up ball. He hit it off the toe of the club and drilled her right on the ankle bone!! So, if you hear of a guy named "Bruce" on the tee box, run for cover!!!

I am confused, why the change of speakers? Is this considered an upgrade? Or did you just need to match your furniture and Rocket was a closer match? I dont think there has been anyone that I can remember that has owned and championed Axioms for over a year that all of a sudden went to Rockets. From what a lot of people have said, the sound is so different that people usually like one or the other.

I am so confused...

Ah Ray Ray RAY, what WERE you thinking?
Clearly exchanging the Axioms for anything less than Wilson Audio is simple insanity at its best.

Chess - LOL!!! There are SO many different choices out there.

snippy - no real reason to be confused. As I said earlier, I still think the Axioms are excellent speakers and one of the best values out there. I whole-heartedly recommend them. Certainly my recommendations always included a proviso that one's own ears need to make the decision.

There is no magic here, my personal preferences swung to the Rockets once I had a chance to spend a weekend listening to them. They simply give me (and my wife) a bit "more" of what we like.

I don't think it appropriate to begin a detailed discussion that would simply end up pitting one set against the other - they are both excellent products. Personal preference drives us to make these decisions and mine has changed slightly.

I am tempted to say that the obvious tie in with Ajax freebie....

But, I also own IMHO better speakers, and wish everyone be happy with their personal choices in life.
Sounds like a golf course home is a great place to be!
For me, a ski on/off chalet hopefully awaits me in the Alps when I decide technology no longer drives me in life!

Thanks, Ray, no I understand, you do consider it an upgrade to what you believe is a better sound, which is great. It sounds like it was a lot of fun being with the head of Rocket and Craig.

I saw the title of a confession from Ray and figured you were finally admitting that yes, you are a sales person for the MX remote series and you are getting commissions for all these sales!

Good luck with the speakers Ray. Your old set was nice and sounded good, so I can only imagine what you've heard in the Rockets to cause the switch. I've never heard Rockets, so I will reserve judgement there. Maybe I'll check them out sometime once you are all setup and I am making another visit to the in laws.

A house on the golf course sounds nice...you'll get to play lots more. I'd say perhaps we could play a round as well, but I don't know how much you'd want to suffer through a round with someone whose best score ever was 110, considers a double bogey as a good score, and is really just generally considered successful when a score of double par (my max when I keep score) doesn't have to be written down for a hole.

Then again, I could use some lessons
