i just bought a pioneer vsx-1014-k receiver and i'm looking for recommendations for the right speaker package to go with it. i've looked at several allready including mission,infinity and tannoy, (truthfully i've never even heard of axiom)

most people that come here for the first time have never heard of axiom either.. its OK, we forgive you..

welcome to the boards, and i hope we can help you in building your HT.. first off, some info on your room would be helpful.. dimensions, total cu ft, any wall openings to additional rooms, carpet/hardwood, etc.. just give us some info in which to work with. plus, what are you looking for..? do you want something that will wake up the neighbors..? will you be watching lots of movies, or listening to more music..? do you prefer LOTS of bass, or are you more interested in clarity and detail..? this is all important info that would help us, help you.

and be advised.. this is the AXIOM board, so dont be surprised if you get a bunch of suggestions to go with axiom speakers.. but, i can tell you with 100% assurance, i think axiom speakers offer more performance, for the best price, than any other speaker out on the market today. the bang for buck ratio is off the charts.. are there speakers that sound better...? of course.. are there speakers that are cheaper...? YES.. but, for whatt you get for what you pay for axioms, its really a no brainer..

That is a nice receiver and if you decide to purchase Axiom's, you'll love the sound. The only concern I would see is if you purchase the m80's, which are 4ohm speakers, you may have difficulty driving them with that model.

I was in your same situation about a year ago, I started hearing about Axiom's on AVSforum.com, Audioreview.com, and Audioholics.com. So I started checking them out and talking to people on this forum, what a bunch of nice people. Anyway, I had experience with Infinity, Polk, Klipsch, and Advent. My Axiom's are the best speakers I've ever owned in quality, sound, and customer service. Depending on where you live, I would recommend you look at the "Audition in Your Area" thread in the Questions and Answers area to see if someone lives close to you for a free audition. That is what sold me, and I plan to add my name to that list as soon as I get my new HT room done...

my room is approx. 12'x18' with the last 5.5' of the viewing end raised as a 12" platform
everything is carpeted and the entranceway is about 6' wide
i favour rock music and action or sci fi movies

If you primarily like rock and movies i'd be thinking goinh with the M3's, M40's or M50's. If you like fairly loud music you may find the M3's a little small. My room is just a little smaller than yours and I have the M3's and it's fine for me but I don't crank the tunes (but I don't listen to movies at low volumes either). The vp100 and QS4's should be fine for a centre channel and surrounds (could go to the vp150 and QS8's if you think you may get a case of upgraditoues later or eventually may move the system to a larger room).

For movies definitely get a good sub. It is too important a component to skimp on for movie sound tracks. I'd get a good 10" or 12" sub. HSU, SVS and Axiom make good ones.

Oh yeah, if you are concerned about buying speakers without hearing them first, this thread will point to a whole list of Axiom owners that would be happy to audition some for you. Hopefully you can find someone that lives nearby.

I had not heard of Axiom either, til about four years ago. Checked around a bit, looked at all the reviews-pro and consumers, broused the other forums-Found the M3s to be the darlings of the Axiom set at the time, and very highly rated! Bought some! Great speakers!! Easy to listen to; never an annoying sound!

Moved into a bigger house; needed larger speakers-A No Brainer!-Got more Axioms!!

My new M50s are a perfect match for my old M3s, giving me a seamless, coherent system consisting of M50s for mains, and three M3s for center and surrounds.

A genuine "Goldilocks" set-up: Neither too "warm" and dull; nor too "cold" and analytical; but "Just Right"!!

Speakers for life!!
