I am getting ready to buy my Axiom's but first I need to run speaker wire to my surround locations.

Scenario:
My living room has no attic (vaulted ceiling) and no sub-floor (Townhome). I two options to get wire to the back of the room.
1. Hide it behind crown molding (maybe someday)
2. Run it under the floor (project approved by wife)

Project:
I am installing a 640 sq/ft of laminate flooring tomorrow. I have cut a hole behind the entertainment center for the speaker terminal box. I slit the wall about 4 inches from the floor to insert the wire into. The molding is 4.5 inches and will cover this.

The left surround will be mounted on the side of the stairs. The speaker wire has been poked through to the closet space and will be run up the wall to the proper location.

The right surround will be mounted to the wall near the back door. I found a fire block about four feet up that I will need to drill through. Not sure on how to do that yet.

I am hoping the floor boards don't have any problem with the wire height as small as it is. I will post more pics later. This gets me just a few small steps closer to purchasing my Axioms! WOO HOO!!

Any suggestions are welcome!

Are you using the floating type laminate flooring, if so I would think you would be fine. You don't want any staples/nails through the wires.

If you want to plan ahead, you could run a flat HDMI wire as well, allowing you put a projector in the back of the room later if you wanted, without having a similar problem. The cable cost less than $100 at Monoprice, and works great at 50ft in my house.

Just a thought.

I am curious why your flat wire is so low where it comes out of the wall? Looks like a really good idea and look forward to more updates. Watch out for the cat,he doesn't look like he approves of what your doing. lmao

Nice project!!

Any thoughts of putting an extra run in for future 7.1 or if one of your wires mysteriously fails?

Wow, what a project! The most frusterating part is trying to plan for EVERYTHING!!! Without a doubt once you get the floor down you will think of something else you wish you would have put down under it, that's a given. Also you better make damn sure you like the positioning of everything, because once you lay the floor you'll be pretty much stuck with the arrangement of the room! LOL, hey I'm not trying to be a downer here at all, just speaking from past experience.

I thank God for my attic, it makes everything a total breeze. However once you get this project done that should be a great looking (and sounding) room. Vaulted ceilings may not be very efficient (harder to heat, and not as easy to wire up), but they do look very classy, and give an over all feeling of being more spacious.
