Just went to a fantastic new beer bar in downtown Oakland tonight, called The Trappist. Oddly enough they specialize in Belgian style beers. ;\)

My new favorite beer is the Gouden Carolus Grand Cru. Complex, thick, with a sweet first taste and a beautiful smokey/peppery finish. And they have it on tap!

On tap??? I've only had it bottled. I've made up my mind then. I'm definitely going to WWDC this summer. \:\)

How to pour a perfect pint of Guinness

Course, that's if you have a tap on hand, I guess. I'll have to try it tonight with a draughtflow bottle.

Nice video with discussion of the nitrogen bubbles moving upward and downward.

I haven't been following the thread, so I appologize up front if this has been mentioned already.

Stopped in at a neighbours after work tonight, and was treated to a Young's Double Chocolate Stout. He's had it on order since last October, and it just came in this week!!! Very good and thoroughly enjoyable, but I don't know if it's worth a six month wait.

I'm not a wordsmith, so I won't attempt to describe it, but the reviews I linked to are pretty much bang-on.

The Young's is tasty, but I don't think it's worth that kind of wait, either. Like some other European beers, it actually travels really well in cans. I've used it instead of espresso in Beeramisu. Rogue makes a similar beer that's even "more".

Despite the fact that it cost more than the pizza, I thoroughly enjoyed most -- I shared a little -- of a 22oz. Stone Double Bastard Ale last night. My wife and I enjoyed a rare date night out without the kids at a local pizza joint. The beer list was fantastic and I plan on visiting again soon. \:\)

Excellent, Peter.

I enjoyed several glasses of their Ruination IPA while in Vegas. I decided to post my reviews over there at Beeradvocate. If you guys are interested, I'd direct you there. If you're in Vegas, go to the Burger Bar. For sure.

This Saturday is the annual Parkway Barleywine Festival. Should be about 15-20 different ones on draught. Wish you were here!
