Peter, I was thinking of you and your Gouden Carolus obsession recently. I was at my local package store, which is very conveniently located on my way home from work, where I spied a shelf that - to my crappy camera phone - looked like this...

Glad you guys had a good time at RFD. Any time you can combine something deep-fried with sausage, you must be eating with JP. No wait, that's not it...

Thanks, Ken. That made it all worthwhile.

I don't think I've come across a Paulaner I don't like. Pretty tasty stuff.

You know the sound Homer Simpson makes when he's thinking about beer and starts drooling?

Yeah.

Tip to you, Adam: the Jack London Bevmo has some Gouden Carolus Triples. I already reserved 6 of them, there are apparently 9 left according to their website.

I may be shooting myself in the foot here, but hopefully they've already put aside mine. ;\)

I know - I go there semi-regularly, and always check out the belgian beer section for goodies, though lately I've been going mainly to try new wines.

I'll stop by tomorrow. Don't think I'll pick up more than one, though, so you should be safe. ;\)

Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout ("Never Say Die!") by North Coast is really quite amazing, satisfying, and uplifting. Don't take my word for it, its been rated by the European beer tasters (if memory serves, somebody who knows how to rate these things) as 99 out of 100 in comparison to other beers!

I love the stuff but have learned to take it easy, be careful it's 9% alcohol and 300 calories per 12 oz bottle! Enjoy!

Yams for Thanksgiving should not come from a can. Skin then boil y'er yams. Mashy them up. Grate fresh nutmeg into a mortar and mashy to powder with y'er pestle. Pour the fresh nutmeg powder into y'er yams. Sprinkle lots of cinnamon into y'er yams. Pour lots of pure (real) Maple syrup into y'er yams. Pour some more. Mix in a skosh of orange zest. Bake for 15 minutes at 350 degrees. Enjoy y'er yams.

Yams are good when prepared properly.

On the other hand, nothing can be done with pumpkin pie.

Mince pie however will give your Thanksgiving an authentic 17th century feel.

Good Beer is good. I like a tall bottle of Taj Mahal.
