How about getting a pair of brand new m80's with the midrange drivers already snapped in them...Boy talk about a letdown. Was looking so forward to seeing what these speakers could do being fed from a yamaha m-80.The midrange drivers on one speaker are both buzzing. Switched channels and the buzzing follows the speaker.
So how do you get ahold of axiom.Called early this morning, both the toll free and get the machine as well as the straight thru one.No answers no message return.

How "early" did you call?

Their posted hours are:

Quote:
Our office hours are 9am - 8pm Mon-Fri, EST.

Toll Free (North America) 1-866-244-8796
Worldwide 1-705-635-3090

Did you leave a message? It sounds like you did (some people complain about nobody answering, but then that person never even left a message). I would guess that they respond to them in a first-in, first-out order meaning that any messages last night or overnight were getting answered first.

If anything, Axiom is known for their outstanding service. Just keep in mind that you aren't the only person who has probably called in with a need.

Brent just got back to me.So yea they have a pretty good back log of calls.gonna replace the offending drivers, shipping asap.Funny how the speakers could come off the assembly line serialed 1-2 and the 2 mids in one are fine and both in the other are dammaged. My guess is something happend during the during the freq. sweep. gringood service, the weighting is the hard part.

It doesn't take much to make a speaker act goofy. Try just loosening the mounting screws and see it changes anything. I had an M2 make some funny scratching sounds, turned out it was the tinsel lead on the back rubbing the driver.

I will guess Brent had you check for loose connections on the back of the midranges? The wires do become disconnected from the driver during shipping on occasion.

if both drivers are buzzing, that tells me it is something internal

Brent's thoughts were it is probably adhiesive related. If I applied slight inward pressure on the cones and kept everything straight they stopped buzzing. They both act busted but it is strange that both would be busted. What if anything in the crossover could send a buzzing signal to the mid range drivers?
thanks to everyone for there thoughts.

Mike you are saying busted, but they are not busted. The voice coil is a very precise fit and for some reason the voice coil is rubbing. As Brent has suggested, possibly some excess glue from assembly is causing the issue. A slight twist in the frame when being mounted can cause a voice coil to rub. Google speaker voice coil and you will get a better feel for how a speaker is built. Axiom is very quick at getting replacement speakers sent out and this will soon be behind you.

This is a pretty good break down of what goes into assembling a speaker. Lotsa glueing.Concrentic jigging.
