Hello.

When I first put together an entry-level home theater, I received the Axiom AX500A as a gift for a sub. Though I have steadily upgraded my speakers, I have a question about how to get the most out of my subwoofer.

My system is a Technics 80W/channel receiver, JVC DVD player with built-in DTS+5.1 decoders, Axiom M3's as the mains, an entry-level JBL center channel, Cerwin-Vega LS5's for surrounds, and the AX500A as sub. The predominant use is for home theater.

I currently have the sub running at half-volume, 0 degrees in phase, with the crossover around 80-90, 9 inches from the wall (it can't face a corner due to room layout). The bass sounds great, but I know it's well below the potential of the sub, which I realize is a "man among boys" with my current setup.

Any advice on how I should set things up to get a better sound without risking damage?

Thanks,

Frank Warsh

Subs in general are very room placement dependant to get the best performance. I would try various available places in your room for the sub and see how you like it. The set up of the sub controls seems good to me though again you may want to try a few x-over positions in the various sub placement experiments. Any sub x-over setting from 50 Hz and up will match with the M3s.
