Last night I finally got the speakers set up in the new room and ran into a problem I had not thought of. I ran component and HDMI to my projector thinking that would be all I’d need. The HDMI cable goes directly to the Oppo and the component goes to the 7300. I could not get the OSD to pop up via component and ended up stringing a coax cable from the monitor “out” port on the HK to the projector.

When the HK was set up in the other room, I had just about every input/output the thing had with a cable in it just because I was always experimenting with it. I never took the time to figure out which output the OSD travels on.

I’m seeing a rather large pain in the ass here. Isn’t there an easier way to pull up the OSD and tweak something than having to change display devise input, and toggle back and forth between the DVD player, Projector and AVR?? And is there a way to get the OSD to carry on the component, or will I have to pull another cable to the projector?

The Avia test disk is pretty much worthless at this point seeing how I have to flop the projector’s input back and forth just to see what the heck I’m tweaking.

I believe that the 7300 OSD will only work over a 480I connection, thus the need for a composite or S-Video output. If you're just talking about setting up the sound levels maybe you could run a composite to a smaller or portable tv if you have one to see the on screen display.

There is a Firmware upgrade available from HK that should allow you to get OSD on 480p via Component.

Call them....they will send you the cd for free which you then insert into a computer with a serial port.

I'm baffled now. If the firmware will allow the OSD to zip on over to the display via component 480P, then why won't it do it now if I just turn the DCDI off? With it off, it's 480i.

I'm beginning to see value with having everything run through the AVR with one cable going to the display. That's a stance I have not taken before.

Mike I run everything in my system through the AVR 635 via component (RGB) cables but still have to run a separate single cable (coax 3 I believe) to view the OSD menus ... although I haven't tried manually adjusting the settings on the face of the HK, I'm curious if you will be able to do this while viewing the calibration disc on the monitor? I dunno.

Same here. I have a 27" TV sitting beside the receiver (HK 630) which I only use for OSD, since the display on the front of the receiver crapped out a while ago. Gotta get that fixed one day.

If the firmware upgrade allows OSD on component that is a big win for me -- it already sounded attractive but now sounds like a must have. Is the OSD on component 635 only or 630 as well ?

Ran into the same problem with my Denons (1905 & 3803). The answer was to connect them via S-video cable. Might be worth a try.

Yeah, but my S-Video cable is only 6 feet long, hence the placement and use of the 27" CRT rather than the projector. Geez, next thing you know someone is gonna suggest I buy the right length of cable

well crap.....sounds like I need to pull another cable. I have the MX 850, so programming a one button configuration is doable.

just one more little thing to do along with the other gazzilion little things I need to do......

The firmware upgrade sounded interesting -- not sure if it will work for either of our receivers -- you have a 7300 IIRC ?
