I'm an idiot and my fingers are like brats - no building stuff here. I have been told that swapping CD drives isn't hard, but, again, I'm an idiot and I don't have lots of time on my hands anymore.
Pentium 4, 2.4Ghz, 80 Gigs (?) is what has been recommended.

Guys, I want very much to get in on this deal, but I've got the Pinewood Derby this weekend and lots of other stuff going on, so it will take me a few weeks at best to reciprocate. When you're in burning mode, if it is convenient to make a copy for me, that would be great. Like Ken, though, I'm afraid that I may not be able to expand your horizons much.

Are you using name brand CDs? That should improve reliability. I'd also slow down the speed a notch or two. If you keep burning coasters, well, the new drive is probably a good idea. You can get 'em real cheap from ZipZoomFly or NewEgg (both reputable online dealers).

I received your mix today, too, but I was at Tharkun's all day and haven't had a chance to listen to it yet. Notes and impressions to come later.

You should have played it at Tharkuns! I can only imagine some of those tracks through DTS:Neo6 on his system.
Oh my...I think I just wet myself.

Actually, spiff, we listened to the Harnoncourt Beethoven #7 2nd movement for starters (I've got that set, too). It was, to say the least, mighty impressive.

Spiff, listened to your mix last night. Great sounding stuff. Really enjoyed Charlie Haden, and the Dirty Dozen made me smile--very fun track. The instrumental Moby song at the end was really relaxing and soothing. I think I liked that one the most. I'll spend more time with it on the weekend and give you more feedback. Excellent sound on the cd, and you really went above and beyond on the "info pack." Thanks again.

Update: I have a kid in class to whom I am paying a nominal fee to burn the discs. They should be in the mail by Saturday!
