Capn_Pickard's Basement HT

Hey all. Here are a few pics of the basement HT. This is "before" I paint the back wall behind the screen black/charcoal gray, which is set to happen later this week.

I've got a set of M60s in cherry and the QS8s in maple. The 6th and 7th speakers are some old beaters that I painted to match the ceiling. I might upgrade these at some later date with M2s.

The Projector is a Mitsubishi HC1500, which has a little under a 1000 hours on it. I love it, and even though it's only 720p, I find the picture (blu ray - dvd is a different story) to be nearly flawless blown up to 100".

The screen is an Elite screen. The VP100 is mounted on an Axiom custom FMS.

I'll put up some pics of my recent rack install later.

NB: This room is shared with the kids - their toys are usually littered around the space, with storage lining the walls. They have been kindly removed from the frame to avoid cluttering up the pics.

That link would be helpful. I'm really hemming and hawing over this one. I don't want to end up with a batcave feel.

Oh, and I find the VP100 to be perfectly adequate for my needs. That said, I haven't heard the 150 to know what I'm missing ...

If anyone has some $$ just laying around, I'd love to take Axiom up on its trade up program (does that even still exist?).

In any event, it sounds fine for now.

Captain, very nicely done. Just one question- are the QS8's mounted really close to the ceiling, or is it just the angle that the picture is taken at? I thought that the top firing woofer is supposed to be clear (4-5 inches) of anything above it.

I'm not as knowledge as others on the forum, but to me, it looks too close to the ceiling.

Sorry if I'm wrong.

Those don't look like they have speakers on the top or bottom.

Edit: Never mind, I see the upper and lower grill covers now.

Yeah, they do, but at my home where I wanted to mount a screen, I'd have to have them high up also.

Yeah - the QS8 on theater right is at the right height from the ceiling. I had to cheat the one on theater left, due to the soffit. Part of it is the angle the picture is taken at, but it's got about 3 inches of clearance. I haven't noticed anything weird or unusual about that speaker's performance, though, given it's high placement.

Mine are also only inches from the ceiling. I don't think that's affecting their performance nearly as much as their lateral placement.

Wow, Mark, that was some wild context-shifting, even for you.

Adrien, the trade-up program is dead.

Oh well. Not like I'm really in the market for it, anyway. But thanks to all for letting me know how small my equipment looks compared to theirs. Awesome.

Hey, what are friends for?

If it makes you feel better, I still use a VP100 and probably will for quite some time.
