HT Room

The graph is the result of the Hz by Hz freq. resp. of my 2 subwoofers together, from 10 Hz to 40 Hz.
Readings done at the MLP. Equalization with Audyssey MultEQ.

The smaller sub is tuned to 16 Hz and the larger one is tuned to 10 Hz.
The PC13-Ultra's P-EQ was used to make the correction at 35 Hz.

Note the scale used on the y axis.

It's like a speaker cockpit! Sweet. IMO the 2 subs would serve you better if one was on front and rear midwall. Loading the front corners sure gives that visual impact though.

Hellcommute,
i had never thought about a "speaker cockpit"; nice one.

there is no other place i could have put the subs, the room is only 9 x 9 x 16 ft.

When i'm in my seat, there's only about 5 ft. of free space behind me;
book/disc cases occupy most of that wall, plus the back surround speakers.

in fact, i think this size room is the minimum in order to have as few compromises as possible in setting up for good sound.

also, i think the subs' positions in the room corners are a very good place in my room, as you can have an idea if you check the Fr. graph up at the top of this page.
Frequency response is very good, as also phasing with the M80s.

thanks a lot for the suggestion.

yeah, i like bass, as long as it is well balanced with the other frequencies, from whatever source, like movies or organ.

some months back, i thought that my HT was complete and done, but did not much like using 2 of the Marantz amplifier channels for the back surrounds, mostly because of the heat.

so i bought another separate amp as a replacement for the Marantz amps.

now, the new amplifier is used for the Front speakers and
the other amps are used for the side and back surrounds.
the Marantz is used only as a decoder/preamp.

as i can't change the photo here for an up to date one, here's a link where you can see the setup:

a few weeks ago, i read the Axiom M100 speaker evaluation in
here: http://www.hometheatershack.com/forums/h...tion-event.html

the placement for the speakers gave me the idea that i could easily move the front speakers more away from the front wall.
this gave me a better separation angle for stereo reproduction, something that was a bit lacking and, more importantly, it might give me better acoustic staging.
This also makes for a bit more direct sound.

i moved the speakers 6 ins. from the front wall, and instead of aiming
the tweeters exactly at my ears, i aimed them so they would cross about 1.5 ft. behind my head.
then i redid the Audyssey MultEq calibration, using "Recommended Setup Mic Pattern #101", (slightly modified), as seen here:
http://www.hometheatershack.com/forums/a...html#post622338

In the HTS' M100 evaluation, in the chapter named "Soundstage and Imaging", i can read: "Imagine a soundstage with imaging that appears to go a level beyond sound waves into the realm of actually seeming to materialize in the air before you. The soundstage is carved in space with such density you feel you could walk among those solid images and explore them as they hang there, morphing at the rate of the flow of music and sound right before your eyes and ears. The image clarity and depth acuity are so precise that each image source seems outlined like the figures in cartoons from the 30's and 40's, a boundary that defines with stark clarity the edge of each sound. Every pluck, crackle, tone, drumbeat, breath, chord, kick, syllable, and every echo, delay, double, and splash of reverb, is simply popping into existence as an individual three-dimensional entity in space before you. The soundstage that POPS!"

This description of the speakers' imaging surprised me quite a lot because it almost exactly
describes it the way i can see it and hear it myself.

those are quite small modifications in the speaker/room interaction, but i can say that i got a very pleasant surprise with the results.

the speakers where one has to use superlatives...

The soundstage that WOWS me no end!

J.B., are you willing to share your final placement details? Did you move your MLP?
I'm exited to hear so many people are experiencing the same imaging. It's difficult to put into words.
