As you said, it's a matter of taste. For all of the tense moments in
Blood Simple, I find myself giggling through most of it. The Coens always enjoy poking fun at human foibles and weaknesses, and Blood Simple is a wonderful example of that tendency.
If you truly appreciate Sellars then you'll love
Being There. But don't expect Clouseau, or even Strangelove. This is satire on a much more subtle level, and in my opinion it's the finest performance of his career. Lots of folks didn't (and still don't) seem to appreciate it, but it's one of those films I enjoy watching year after year.
And you're right -- this
is a fun thread. I've been in lurking mode for a month or two now, and this brought me back into the fold.
