He doesn't plan to put them in parallel. His pre amp supports to centers and he can drive them through his amp independently.

Anyways, in the Audioholics review of an Axiom 7.1 system, they actually use two vp-150's up front. One below the screen and one above. The author seems to say it works very well. I guess it might be out of your budget however, i'm not sure. Here's the link to the page it talks about the setup:
