Good advice from Randy, but I believe the volume knob on the 500 ranges from about 4 o'clock to 2 o'clock. So 11 or 12 "might" be too high. It all depends on your setup and room, just don't want you to cause any damage to your foundation if you turn it too loud
. The point is to be away from the low or high extreme of the volume dial so you aren't getting any distortion. Same applies for the level adjust from your receiver.
The 500 also has a internal crossover bypass, so use that and you are good to go with your receiver's bass management setting.
