When I say "name brand" DVDs, to me even Memorex is "name brand" compared to my last buy of "Staples" branded cheap-o-discs. Now I had a "coaster factory" when I was using those.
I really like the S97, but I too have longed for a good HTPC. If you ever get around to investigating it further, as to actual parts and costs, let me know. Maybe we could "bundle buy" something and each get one and possibly save a few bucks along the way. I like that a properly configured HTPC will read all disc formats, can save movies to disc (or that Lime Technology disk array...
), and you should be able to get REALLY good quality video out of it. For me, MP3 playback, viewing photos, and other parts aren't too important...
