JH, if you haven't already, you may wish to go to the local home improvement store and see if they carry a product called "Cord Mate." It's white platic channeling that has an adhesive on the back. While it's not the end all-be all, it certainly looks much better than tacking bare wire to the walls. I have used it myself to run wiring along above the baseboard and thought it looked quite good actually, barely noticeable. You may find that an appropriate solution.
