I have one of the original iPods (first generation) and I thought it was causing the static because it was old too. I hooked up my daughter's fifth generation 30GB one and it sounds the same as my old one. Maybe I can't hear the noise on the little ear buds cause they aren't good enough. It's really annoying on my stereo though. I can't imagine what it will be like when I get my M60's....
