As you know from past threads, I spent a lot of time understanding acoustic panels, placement, etc. I used the old fashion method of sliding a small mirror along the wall/ceilings while my son sat in the primary position.

Once he saw the reflection of the tweeters/midranges in the mirror, we marked all those locations with a small sticker. Later I went back and hung my DIY panels designed from OC703, in those locations.

Wow, if I only knew about a free program that is now available free on AVSforum from member "jeffreylebowski" who is the developer/designer.

Here is the thread discussing this program, "First Reflection Points" and current version 1.02. It was written in C++ and requires Directx 9.0c which should come with XP SP2.

I also received an error the first time I ran the program saying I was missing the file d3dx9_32.dll, however, this was only because I needed to get an update for DirectX 9.0C which is also discussed in this thread above. Here is the link for this update if you have problems running the program. It will only give you the updates you need.

The program is really easy to use and VERY accurate. You basically enter in information about your LCR speakers, seating locations and ear positions, and room dimensions. Then it will calculate like 100,000+ points on your room walls/ceiling/floor and has a 1ft scale so you know where to place your panels.

I compared it to my manual results and it was dead on accurate. Thanks so much to Jeffrey, for designing this program and offering it free. He obviously is a very talented developer.

Below are some pics from my results. The COOLest part of this program is that you can virtually move around the room left/right/up/down/spin/etc.. and can look at the room from any angle or height. Heck, you can even look at it from outside the room from any wall.

Notice in the last picture, I walked behind my left m80.
