I'd also wanted more from the VP150 (with M80 fronts) and attempted several configurations from 2 M22's, 2 M3's, VP100+VP150, and finally settle with the Vp150 set on top of an M3, forming a 'T'.
The M3 sits on the floor and is connected to one channel of a stereo amp with the VP150 connected to the other, sounds great but now I'm in the market for a single used M3 as a replacement for the rear surround.
