This "entrenchment" reminds me of the shootout scene in Naked Gun where the movie cuts back and forth between the two actors, then revelas the full scene and they're firing at each other while only 2 feet apart.
To re-write the scene and make it apply to this forum, I'd put a pair of Axiom speakers in the middle facing the camera, the scientific empricists on one side with sniper rifles, and the experientialists on the other side with shotguns. Implied in this arrangement is that the audience behind the camera doesn't really care who wins -- they're just enjoying the sound.
