It was on eBay but never sold, which is not surprising. There probably aren't a lot (or any) record collectors that can afford to buy $3 million worth of records. He'd be far better off breaking it up, letting common ones sell for 5 bucks or whatever, and seeing what the rarer ones fetch. He'd easily break the $3 million mark he couldn't get as a bundle.
I will also take issue with that write up claiming digital music is hurting record collecting. I'd say it's quite the opposite, with anyone being able to download digital copies, it makes collectors that much more adamant about getting "real" or rare physical copies of records. I've seen prices for vinyl records (at least in the punk rock / hardcore circle I follow) double or even triple in value in the last 5 years.
