Interesting... I wonder if that's a Pioneer-specific response or their general advice. I used my auto-setup too (Denon 3808), though JC is right, it's not that hard to do it manually either once you have an SPL meter. You'll also need to measure speaker distances separately and input those into your receiver (assuming it has that functionality), but again, that is not hard.
