Some audio ppl have suggested "buy as much power as you can comfortably afford".
Others will be more specific and ask about your usage of the sound system first before making suggestions.
For a first time system, do some trial and error but with an educated guess at what you might want. Power is certainly not everything and not alot of power is required to play sound at the volume level preferred by most people.
