I'm not sure what you're asking.

There a few ways receivers handle DSD:

1. They don't, PCM only.
2. DSD with time alignment, speaker trims only, no bass management.
3. Optional bass management by converting to PCM, otherwise a "direct" mode which does #2
4. Ones that convert DSD to PCM badly (your Onkyo isn't unique) when asked to do any processing.

I'm a broken record, but players should output PCM. That way it doesn't matter what new compression formats are invented in the future. Just give the receiver some number of channels of linear pulse code modulation and let it do its thing.
