On the "Vegas to Sturgis Mayhem Tour" trip we had to stop at every state line and consult the compendium of state laws regarding what to do with handguns. One person would call out the relevent regulations and there would be much loading/unloading/hiding/unhiding and no small amount of muttering about "stupid politicians wasting our money".

Before that trip I had been aware that laws varied from state to state but I had no idea how totally contradictory they were between neighboring states, eg :

One state - handgun must be on dashboard or equally visible location
Next state - handgun must *not* be visible, must be under seat or in glove compartment
Third state - handgun must *not* be under seat, glove compartment only
etc...
