Hi Cat,

I used to dismiss off-brand TVs as having really degraded picture quality (and in past years they did), but recently I've been impressed by several Vizio displays. I took an old friend out shopping (still a CRT owner) to his local Costco and we compared several Vizios to nearby Samsungs. The off-axis viewing angle on the Vizio was very good; I also told Fred (my old friend) to consider plasma sets (including Samsung and Panasonic plasma) because there's no loss of contrast or color degradation with off-axis viewing. I can't be sure if the Vizio I looked at was an LCD (I think so) or a plasma, but off-axis it was very good. Of course, if you don't view off-axis, then it doesn't matter, although the washed out contrast and color changes with off-angle viewing of LCDs has always bugged me.

Sadly, he didn't buy a new set. He bought an emergency generator for his island summer home. . .Oh well.

Regards,
Alan
