There are several parts to building your own. Yes I have the ability, but there is also that contraint of Time.

I took a trip out to some of the local stores, like the Brick and Leon's. Both had stuff that I could consider, but the cost vs quality gives me some reason to want to make my own. That said there were a few that looks OK and didn't cost all that much, and would work. So am I better off to have one that is made so I can enjoy my system, or to spend that time making my own that will function no better (but built well) for the same cost?

I can get a decent made one from Ikea that actually costs far less than what I can make the something of similar design for.

Well, I did go around to one of the higher end audio stores that happened to have moved to a new location and they have some of their stands that don't fit the new layout that are selling them for a good price. Perhaps I should get one of them for my audio equipment end.
