For Prom 22 the BBC Philharmonic presented a concert dealing mostly with dark emotions in music. The program started with Rachmaninoff's Isle of the Dead, which has much beauty despite the rather sinister theme. A piece of new music receiving its premier followed, and was listenable although I didn't find much memorable musical content.

Following the intermission the very dramatic Shostakovich Symphony No. 11 was played. This is referred to as "The Year 1905", commemorating the tragic incident in St. Petersburg when over 200 demonstrators were shot and killed by the Russian soldiers.
