They're actually very different. The EC came out in a beautiful golden brown (fairly dark), and of course, the Vermont Maple is dark, dark red-brown. However, they did match the best out of the four finishes I chose:

Buffalo Oak (kind of boring, really, see just about any inexpensive Oak colored furnature out there-no offense, guys!), Warm Cherrywood (didn't go with anything, doesn't look that great in my house's light. Beautiful in sunlight, but, hey, I'm never home when it's light out.), Classic Oak (very nice, but it didn't match as well), and Vermont Maple (beautiful finish, more interesting grain than Oak, etc.)

The entertainment center is made of white oak with a Minwax Early American finish, with satin poly. Came out real purdy, if I do say so myself.
