Un,I'm not suggesting the Rava over say the VTF-2 or the Axiom EP350(factory outlet)which all have a similar cost as delivered, but I don't think you should be concerned about the "boomy" comment in the review. It appears that for some reason he was running the mains full-range and when he had the sub crossover around 100hz the combined bass in that area was causing some boominess which was removed by crossing the sub around 50hz.

The simplest and in most cases the best way to handle the bass division, whatever sub you get, is to set the speakers to small on your Marantz, which will then roll off the speakers below about 80-90hz and the sub above that frequency. That's all the bass blending that should be necessary, so the sub crossover would either be entirely bypassed(VTF-2)or turned up to the highest setting and left there(Rava, EP350)so as to minimize interference with the Marantz crossover.
