Ed, Tony hasn't posted in over a year, but my own view has always been that if a center speaker is to be used at all(rather than a "phantom center")a vertically oriented speaker is preferable. Two M2s work well, but even one should be adequate, although as usual, when two speakers are playing the same signals, output is increased by 3dB.
